Kyndryl has expanded its alliance with Palo Alto Networks to add secure access service edge (SASE) services to its managed services offerings. In 2023, when Kyndryl first said it would integrate Palo Alto’s security products and services into its own managed security services, the vendors said they would ultimately support SASE, and now they have.
Palo Alto’s Prisma SASE platform combines SD-WAN with cloud-based security capabilities, including secure access control, advanced threat protection, user-behavior monitoring, and zero-trust network access (ZTNA). A secure web gateway (SWG), cloud-access security broker (CASB) and firewall-as-a-service (FWaaS) are part of the Prisma SASE bundle. Prisma also features AI capabilities as part of Palo Alto’s autonomous digital experience management (ADEM) system, which provides visibility into endpoints, WAN links, cloud resources, applications, and traffic levels to help troubleshoot performance issues.
The latest version of Prisma SASE, version 3.0, features a number of core upgrades, including the ability to secure unmanaged devices through a new, integrated Prisma Access Browser that supports least privilege access, constant security inspection, and other zero-trust capabilities.
The Palo Alto partnership brings to Kyndryl a wide range of security offerings, including a family of next-generation firewalls, the Prisma Cloud security platform for cloud-based applications and workloads, endpoint security, and operational automation support. (Kyndryl has security and networking relationships with other partners as well, including Cisco, Microsoft, Nokia and Fortinet.)
With the new SASE service, Kyndryl said it will offer an end-to-end network (including network and security operations centers) and security health assessment of the customer’s current environment and recommend which SASE and zero-trust approach would work best. The company will also offer a service to help customers design and deploy Prisma SASE environment, which includes testing, configuring, migration of existing users and services, and training for self-managed services, Kyndryl stated.
In addition to those services, Kyndryl’s SD-WAN and SASE services are integrated with its intelligent Bridge infrastructure integration platform. Bridge integrates management, observability, and automation tools while using AI and machine learning to analyze the aggregated data and provide IT operations teams with the intelligence they need to keep systems running at peak performance, the company says.
As a part of its own network modernization transformation, Kyndryl noted that it has shifted from an on-premises network architecture with 54 data centers to cloud-first, SASE-based, zero-trust security principles using select services from its technology partners.
The worldwide SASE market is projected to hit $17 billion by 2029 with a 12% compound annual growth rate, according to a recent Dell’Oro Group report. Single-vendor SASE, combining SD-WAN and SSE, will dominate 90% of the market. Unified SASE solutions, a segment of single-vendor SASE, are forecasted to grow at a 19% revenue CAGR.
This trend fuels market expansion as enterprises seeks integrated networking and security solutions that streamline operations and reduce complexity, according to Mauricio Sanchez, senior director, enterprise security and networking at Dell’Oro, who penned the report.
