Amazon Q Developer now provides transformation capabilities for .NET porting (Preview)

Today, AWS announces new generative-AI powered transformation capabilities of Amazon Q Developer in public preview to accelerate porting of .NET Framework applications to cross-platform .NET. Using these capabilities, you can modernize your Windows .NET applications to be Linux-ready up to four times faster than traditional methods and realize up to 40% savings in licensing costs.

With this launch, Amazon Q Developer is now equipped with agentic capabilities for transformation that allow you to port hundreds of .NET Frameworks applications running on Windows to Linux-ready cross-platform .NET. Using Amazon Q Developer, you can delegate your tedious manual porting tasks and help free up your team’s precious time to focus on innovation.

You can chat with Amazon Q Developer in natural language to share high-level transformation objectives and connect it to your source code repositories. Amazon Q Developer then starts the transformation process with the assessment of your application code to identify .NET versions, supported project types, and their dependencies, and then ports the assessed application code along with their accompanying unit tests to cross-platform .NET. You and your team can collaboratively review, adjust, and approve the transformation process. Additionally, Amazon Q Developer provides a detailed work log as a documented trail of transformation decisions to support your organizational compliance objectives.

The transformation capabilities of Amazon Q Developer are available in public preview via a web experience and in your Visual Studio integrated development environment (IDE). To learn more, read the blogs on the web experience and the IDE experience, and visit Amazon Q Developer transformation capabilities webpage and documentation.
