IBM plans to use artificial intelligence (AI) to replace 7,800 jobs over the next five years, Chief Executive Arvind Krishna said in an interview, sparking fears of widespread job losses across industries.
“Comments, such as the ones Arvind made, validates the claims that AI can reduce support jobs and hence costs for the company. It will set the direction of other enterprises to look for similar opportunities in their support functions,” said Pareekh Jain, lead analyst at Pareekh Consulting.
IBM CEO on Tuesday told Bloomberg that the company was looking to cut down hiring for roles that could be replaced with AI.
